A new formulation in the adjuvant treatment of atopic dermatitis – sodium hypochlorite. Description of cases.

ABSTRACT

Introduction:

Atopic dermatitis (AD) affects about 18% of the children’s population. Genetic, immunological and environmental factors play a role in the etiopathogenesis of AD. Disturbances in the proper functioning of the protective layer of the skin are conducive to bacterial, viral and fungal infections. The antiseptic and cleansing effect of sodium hypochlorite (previously used in the treatment of wounds and burns) was the starting point for the use of this substance in the treatment of superinfections of atopic lesions.

Description of cases:

The article presents two cases of AD patients with severe impetigo. Were added to the classical treatment baths in sodium hypochlorite solution. In both cases, virtually complete resolution of the lesions was achieved. Prophylactically, baths are used for both girls once a week.

Summary:

According to the authors, baths in sodium hypochlorite play a valuable role in the treatment and prevention of AD recurrences.
